Kingdom of Navarre
Queen Berengaria
Kingdom of Navarre

Berengaria of Navarre, as the wife of King Richard the Lionheart, was a notable historical figure in her own right. She was the first Queen of England to set foot on English soil, as she traveled with Richard on the Third Crusade and was crowned Queen in Limassol, Cyprus.

It is said that Berengaria enjoyed drinking wine and was known to indulge in it quite frequently. In fact, during her time as queen, it was not uncommon for her to host elaborate feasts where wine flowed freely.

Despite her love for wine, Berengaria was known for her grace and poise, and was greatly respected by her subjects. She was also known for her strong faith, and was said to have spent much of her time in prayer and meditation.

It's fascinating to think about the lives of historical figures like Berengaria and the unique quirks and traits that made them who they were.

Berengaria is often remembered as the Queen of Cyprus, as well as the Queen of England.

Queens have been associated with the symbolism of wine

Mary, Queen of Scots: Mary was a devout Catholic and wine was an important part of Catholic liturgy. As such, wine was often present during Mary's religious ceremonies and rituals.

Elizabeth of Hungary: Elizabeth was a Catholic saint who is often depicted holding a basket of wine and bread, which she gave to the poor. This image has become a popular symbol of charity and generosity.

Anne of Austria: Anne was the queen consort of France and was known for her love of wine. She was particularly fond of Bordeaux wine and helped to establish its reputation as a high-quality wine.

Mary of Burgundy: Mary was a medieval queen who was known for her love of wine and her ability to hold her liquor. She was said to have a particular fondness for the wines of the Burgundy region.

Overall, the association between queens and wine has been particularly strong in Catholic cultures, where wine is an important part of religious ritual and symbolism. However, queens from other cultural and historical contexts have also been associated with wine in various ways.
